Pakistan

15.04.97 - 20.05.97 Lahore-Islamabad-Peshawar-Gilgit-Sust 1370 Km

Visa

In New Delhi I got a 1 month visa (4 U$). It's possible to extend it in Islamabad. The border crossing with India can take a long time, the one with China is much easier.

Money

1 U$ = 40 Rupees. In Islamabad it's possible to get U$ from the creditcard.

Roads

Good

Traffic

Between Lahore and Peshawar there is a lot of traffic, but in the north on the Karakorum Highway it's not a problem anymore.

Accomodation

There are enough hotels.

Food

Lot's of meat, otherwise quit similar to Indian food.

People

The Pakistanis were much more reserved and less curious than the Indians. On the Karakorum Highway, childrens throw stones at you, sometimes they're standing 30 meters over the road. Fortunately they never got me. People were very conservative. I had the impression that Pakistan was more fundamentalist than Iran.

Language

Same as in India

Price

Cheap

Bicycle parts

They have chinese bikes.

Dangers

The Karakorum Highway. I don't think it's a nice country for female cyclists.
